All human beings experience anger in one way or another. Everyone knows what anger is, they have felt it and experienced it in its various forms, such as a fleeting annoyance or as a full-fledged rage. Anger is a completely normal and usually a healthy human emotion. However, when one loses control of anger it can lead to multiple problems: problems at work, problems with significant others, and overall problems with one’s quality of life.
We realize that therapy is difficult. It is difficult because it often brings out an aspect of each person that is not particularly attractive. However, in order for the renewal process to begin, it is very important for you to get past their level of denial and to look at your own thoughts and behaviors openly and honestly. You must remember that you are not bad, evil or rotten.
Our 12-session teen anger management group program is designed to help young men examine themselvesf so that they have a better understanding of their thought process and decision-making habits. It will help teens understand that aggression is a learned behavior, an emotion that turns into an action, often without thinking or planning ahead.
The goal of our teen anger management group is to help you reduce and control both your emotional feelings and the physiological arousal that leads to your anger. Since you can't get rid of anger or avoid it, the only option you have is to learn to control your anger.
This is a 12 week group for men struggling with anger and rage. During our time we will discover what triggers anger, and the issues that help fuel angry outbursts. In addition men will explore ways to express themselves in a healthy manner that builds up rather than tears down.
Topics Covered:
This group is designed for: Male Teens, ages 17 and under, who have felt convicted to address out of control anger in their lives.
A typical meeting consists of a combination of “checking in,“ focused teaching, sharing struggles, and processing weekly assigned work from Mad: How to Deal with Your Anger and Get Respect by James J. Crist Ph.D (or other handouts) and a time of discussing whatever issues group members may be facing. Throughout the group, each member will have the opportunity to share his story, his struggle, and seek support from other group members.
To enter one of the groups, you will need to schedule an individual counseling session with Charlton Clarke. In the session, Charlton and you will determine together if you will be eligible for group therapy and if the existing group would be a good fit for you. It is also an opportunity for you to ask questions about the group and for the counselor to hear your story. The individual session cost is $90.
